Bad Credit Student Loans
College costs a lot of money, often more than you can afford out of pocket. As a new student, you probably don’t any credit, or you could have bad credit, and this can pose a problem when looking for loans. If you have bad credit or no credit you can find a way to afford college.
Scholarships and Grants
There are a ton of scholarships available out there to help you pay for college. If you are in high school, check with your guidance office. Also, check with the college you are applying to and sign up for FastWeb. With FastWeb, you can search scholarships available to you. Also, make sure you fill out your FAFSA form to get financial aide and possibly government grants.
Affordable Loans
If you must take out a loan, there are many available to you. One common loan from the government is the subsidized or unsubsidized Stafford loan. The subsidized Stafford loan is offered to those in financial need and the interest is paid by the government until 6 months after you graduate. The unsubsidized Stafford loan is offered to everyone.
Another federal loan offered is the Perkins loan. This is also for those in financial need and is offered up to $4,000 a year not exceeding $20,000. It’s harder to get than the Stafford loan, but it is another option.
If you still can’t get enough money for college, you do have more options. You can use a credit card to pay for it, but this is a huge risk and can end up costing you a lot of money later on, especially if you are only making the minimum payment.
If you’re still desperate, look at your college choice and take your time. If you go to a community college first and then another state college afterwards, you can save a considerable amount of money. Most likely, you will be able to take out enough in loans to pay for a state college.
If you don’t want to take out all loans, you can work while in school, only go part time, or take a year or two off to save up, and then go to school. Don’t let the opportunity pass you by. The more work it takes to get into college, the more you will value the experience and the more you will get from it.
