If you have bad credit, you have probably been having problems getting loans for college. Let’s face it, it’s near impossible to get any kind of loan when you have bad credit. Fortunately, there is a way to get student loans for people with bad credit.
Government Loans
Government loans are the first place you should look when looking for student loans. They are also perfect for people with bad credit because they don’t look at your credit. Just about anyone can get government loans, but only those with special needs can get subsidized loans.
If you have bad credit, creditors look at you as a risk. With this in mind, even if you were able to get private student loans, they would probably charge you a very high interest rate. Government bonds have low rates which make them very affordable for students.
Ask your Parents
If you weren’t able to get enough money for college through government loans, you could ask your parents to take out a loan for you in their name. Of course, this may be difficult, too. They will know if you have bad credit and are bad with your money. Try to set up a repayment plan ahead of time and prove to them that you’ll pay them back.
Find a Cheaper School
If you still can’t get enough money, look for a cheaper college. Consider going to a community college first. Government loans are more than enough for community college. If you think you won’t get as good an education, do some research. You’ll find out that some community colleges are even better than 4 year colleges charging $30,000 a year in tuition.
